PreK Press
BUSY DAYS IN PreK
There are always so many things to do during the busy holiday season. PreKers have been busy making some fun seasonal decorations for the classroom, doing special activities that they will be taking home, practicing songs for the upcoming Holiday Program, and all of our other learning as well. We have successfully introduced AAB patterns, additional rhyming games, and some new letter/letter sound activities on our message board. We continue working in our Handwriting Without Tears book and have been reading many December holiday related books. In STEAM we expanded our learning about our environment by setting up an experiment in the Children’s Garden. After collecting and tallying the trash we picked up on our environmental campus clean up walk, we talked about decomposition and things that do and don’t decompose over time. Working in three small groups we looked at trays of various materials (acorns, plastic bottle caps, leaves, styrofoam, rocks, tin foil, sticks, tennis balls, etc.) and made predictions about what would and would not decompose. We then “planted” these materials in raised flatbed gardens. We will dig up these materials in the spring to see what is still there and what has decomposed. Stay tuned…
LORD & LADY OF LEVITY PROCLAMATION:
Another TCS tradition is the Lord and Lady of Levity Proclamation. This proclamation informs the entire TCS community of the special theme for each day of the week leading up to the Holiday Program. Children are invited to dress according to each theme but please know that this is not mandatory and your child is free to dress up or not as he/she sees fit (with the exception of Friday). Printed in yesterday’s Little Hoot, it is copied below for your convenience.
The Court of Levity proclaims the following for next week:
Monday - Holiday Spirit Day
Tuesday - Mystery Day - Dress up and others guess your theme for the day
Wednesday - Sports Day
Thursday - Pajama Day
Friday - Dress up for the Holiday Concert
YALE STUDY
If you haven’t yet had a chance to return the form for your child to participate in the Yale study, please fill it out and return by the end of next week. If you need another copy of the form please let us know.
READING BUDDY GIFTS
(printed in our previous newsletter also)
The PreKers and 4th graders will be sharing some special time together before the holidays. While we realize that there are some strong friendships between buddies, we ask that you please do not bring any gifts to school for Reading Buddies. The PreKers are making cards for them as a way to extend their greetings and we feel that is enough. We also do not want any hurt feelings that come about as a result of some children receiving gifts and others not receiving any. Thanks in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
