PreK Press
May 4th - June 12th
Here is a quick “highlights” review of the past few weeks and important information about upcoming end of the year events.
GRANDPARENTS & SPECIAL FRIENDS DAY
Friday, May 11th was a big success with lots of fun and lots of visitors. (we figure about 30). The PreKers waited with anticipation for their parents, grandparents, and special friends to arrive and then were pleased and proud to show off their classroom and projects. The PreKers did their best to adjust to a totally different schedule and successfully gave tours of the class, shared activities, played with their guests, looked at photographs, and went out on the playground. We ended our time together in class with a PreK concert filled with songs, movement, poetry, audience participation, and the sharing of one of our class books. After that, everyone moved on to either the gym or music room for a delicious lunch and the opportunity to spend additional time together. We hope all the adults enjoyed the day as much as the children did!
CELEBRATION OF LEARNING
As you know, the PreKers spent several weeks learning about different types of bridges, how they are built, and some details about a few of the more famous bridges around the world. In the classroom and in collaboration with Mrs. Johnson, the children were exposed to many different bridge building materials, design opportunities, and artistic expression opportunities. They were very excited to share all of their knowledge, work, and creativity at their recent Celebration of Learning - Bridges. We were glad that so many of you were able to be here and enjoy the celebration with them!
GRASS ISLAND FIELD TRIP
We had an overcast but perfectly wonderful day for our field trip to Grass Island with Reading Buddies on May 22nd and a great time was had by all! The children enjoyed exploring the tidal pools while finding various kinds of crabs, snails, seaweed, and shells. It was very evident that the 4th graders loved the experience just as much as the PreKers did, and it was a nice way to celebrate the special bonds that have developed between all the Reading Buddies. After ending our time together with lunch on the beach, we all returned back to school a little wet, a little muddy, a little tired, and a little late! Thank you to all parents for having the children so well prepared. We appreciate your support!
READING BUDDY TALENTS
The PreKers have all now completed their talents and we have been extremely impressed with how well they have done! Celia shared her expertise with both pet care and pet training. She brought her dog “China” in to help showcase this knowledge and ability. Cameron shared his recipe for “slime” and did a step by step demonstration of how to make it. He then sent each Reading Buddy home with their own ziplock bag of “slime”. Leia talked about her interest in swimming and showed us her suit, goggles, and swimmies. Max brought in two amazing Lego creations, explained how he built them, and shared a lot of details about each one. Felix talked about his interest in ballet and demonstrated a few specific moves for everyone. Eli spoke about playing T-ball and showed us his glove and team shirt. Congratulations to all the PreKers! This was a truly exceptional year filled with terrific ideas, presentations, enthusiastic volunteerism, and participation!!!
SPECIAL MUSICAL EVENT
Yesterday the PreSchool, PreK, Kindergarten, and First Grade were treated to a special musical performance by Kindergartener Simone’s father Rob Nelson. Gathering together on the PreSchool playground everyone enjoyed listening to and singing all the fun and funny songs. They were particularly excited to help “write” one of them. It was a beautiful day filled with music, camaraderie, cooperation, and friendship. We want to extend a very special thank you to Rob Nelson!
FOURTH GRADE STATE EXPO
Today - Thursday - the PreKers attended the 4th Grade State Expo. We began in the music room where the 4th graders sang some patriotic songs and then we went to their classroom space where each 4th grader had a display of information and creative materials that related to the state they chose to study. PreKers were able to walk around, visit with their Reading Buddies, ask questions, and learn a little bit about each of the states. This is a wonderful annual event and another great experience so be sure to ask your child about it!
SELF-PORTRAITS
Last September all PreKers drew self-portraits that were displayed in class. Next week they will draw new ones and soon both will be hanging side by side on the bulletin board in the classroom. Be sure to take a look. You may be surprised by some of the growth that has taken place! (These pictures will be sent home - along with all their other projects, folders, clothes, etc. on the last day of school.)
DRESS DOWN DAY
This coming Monday, June 4th has been declared an official dress down day. On Tuesday, our Heads Of School For The Day (a popular annual TCS auction item) Natalie and Christopher, made this important and always popular declaration!
MANILA ENVELOPES
PLEASE be sure to return your child’s manila envelope to class after you get this newsletter. We use them on the last day of school when we will be sending home lots of class projects and things.
CALLING ALL LIBRARY BOOKS
Please return all TCS library books as soon as possible so the inventory process can be completed before the end of the school year.
PLANNING AHEAD FOR KINDERGARTEN
Please keep in mind over the summer that any student returning for Kindergarten in the fall will need to have a physical before attending the first day of school. The forms are available online and if you have any questions please contact Mrs. Fucci.
Thank you for sharing your children with us and making this such a wonderful year!
They truly are shining stars…
We wish you all the best and hope you all have a wonderful summer!
